Refrigerated wine cellars are intended to store wines in the right conditions, helping them to preserve their desirable characteristics before they are consumed. Remember, there are technical requirements in constructing wine cellars. Coastal Custom Wine Cellar, a premier wine cellar builder in Denver, has created wine rooms with a climate-controlled environment using high-grade wine cellar cooling units.
Refrigerated Wine Cellars: How Expert Builders Design and Build Them
Wine is a favorite beverage of many because it is subtle yet captivating. Its complexity consists of a balance of fruitiness, bitterness, acidity, and body. A perfect pairing of your favorite vintage and meal will provide an amazing experience, especially when the wine is at its best condition!
Why Keep Wines in Refrigerated Wine Cellars?
Storing your wine bottles in boxes, crates, or a kitchen refrigerator will spoil your wines. Wine is sensitive to heat, light, and vibrations. It deteriorates quickly when exposed to an environment with extreme changes in temperature and humidity levels.
The key to proper win preservation is keeping them in refrigerated wine cellars where the storage conditions are stable. To preserve its desirable characteristics before it is ready to be opened and consumed, your wine collection should be equipped with the most suitable wine cooling system.
Creating the Perfect Wine Storage Environment in Refrigerated Wine Cellars
Coastal Custom Wine Cellars is composed of a team of HVAC specialists who knows the crucial role of refrigerated wine cellars in proper wine preservation. They always aim to create safe wine storage facilities equipped with high-grade wine cellar cooling units.
The ideal wine cellar temperature ranges from 55 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit and the humidity levels from 60 to 70 percent. When your wine cellar space fails to achieve these conditions, you will experience wine storage issues, which may lead to wine spoilage, weakened structural integrity of home wine cellars, and breakdown of wine cellar refrigeration systems.
One of the vital steps to ensuring every wine room is equipped with the ideal wine cooling unit is performing a heat load calculation. This method will help determine the number of BTUs needed for choosing the correct size of the wine refrigeration unit for every project. Other factors to consider include the size of the wine room, the amount of glass used, and nearby heat sources.

Conversion of a Car Garage into an Elegant Refrigerated Wine Cellar
In one of the refrigerated home wine cellars built by Denver master builders, a 2-car garage was transformed into a wine room built to maximize cooling performance. Despite the challenges they encountered along the way, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars did their best to create a wine storage room for more than 600 bottles.
They installed a CellarPro wine cooling unit within the racking on the right wall of the wine cellar. The unit exhausts to the outdoors, resulting in a virtually quiet operation.
For the racking features, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars combined individual wine racks, rectangular openings for large format bottles, a tabletop, and lattice diamond bins.
Under the Stairs Wine Cellar Cooling System Installation Project
One of the wine cellar under stairs created by the Coastal team is located under the stairs. Space constraints did not stop them from building the dream wine cellar of the homeowners.
The wine cooling unit was installed by David Gype of Artic Metalworks. It is a ductless split wine refrigeration system, allowing the condenser to be placed outdoors, preventing noise inside the wine room. The evaporator, which is the quitter component of a wine cooling system was installed within the wooden racking and covered with a grill box.
The racking on the right wall was manufactured from Mahogany and applied with a Rustic stain and a clear lacquer finish. It consists of stylish bottle configurations, including individual wine racks and a high-reveal display row.
On the left wall, you will find metal wine racks from VintageView. The black finish of the racking adds a modern look to the wine cellar. With various small wine cellar design ideas available, our design specialist will create one tailored to your aesthetic, functional, and financial needs.
Climate-Controlled Wine Room Built in a Play Area
In this project, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars converted a play area into a functional custom home wine cellar for 2,055 bottles. The reliable team of wine cellar installers utilized one of the 8000S ductless split wine refrigeration system from CellarPro.
The condenser was placed separately from the evaporator, which is mounted on one of the walls in the custom wine room. Refrigerant lines run from the condenser outdoors to the evaporator inside the wine cellar.
This transitional wine cellar features wood and metal wine racks. Most of the wooden wine racks consist of standard bottle openings, some wooden case storage bins, a stemware rack, a high-reveal display row, a countertop, and lattice diamond bins.
There is a cigar humidor located below the countertop with a double-door cabinet. The right section of the cabinet consists of a 2-layer shelving, while the left section is the cigar humidor that displays the owner’s cigar collection.
