A client contacted a master builder because he needed help with his project. He wanted to create a custom home wine cellar that would store and display his precious wine collection attractively. Coastal Custom Wine Cellars, one of our long-time partners in wine cellar construction, incorporated unique features that exceeded the client’s expectations.
Unique Custom Wine Cellar Designed for a Home
A beautiful custom home wine cellar designed with unique features upgrades the lifestyle of the owners because the functional space gives comfort and a luxurious place for entertaining friends while enjoying their favorite wines. It also increases the home’s resale value.
If you want to make sure everything is in place and your wine cellar is constructed the right way, you’ll want to work with a reliable builder. Keep in mind that building refrigerated wine cellars requires the help of a skillful and knowledgeable designer and builder.
At Custom Wine Cellars Denver, we are composed of premier builders who specialize in creating functional and appealing wine storage facilities. We have designed custom home wine cellars that stand out. You may also want to incorporate eco-friendly features into your home wine cellar design.
In this particular project, the client sought the help of Coastal Custom Wine Cellars, one of our partners in the construction industry. He wanted to create a full-sized wine cellar equipped with a wine cooling system as part of their home construction.
They started the project in 2010, and they worked closely with the home’s general contractor and architect to ensure that all of the requirements are met. With their creativity, passion, and expertise, the Coastal team was able to come up with an impressive design and finished the project in 2012.
Designing Custom Wine Racks for a Large Collection
Coastal Custom Wine Cellars made a thorough assessment of the client’s needs, considering the different factors that would have an impact on the racking design. They created a 3-dimensional design, which included the different elevations of the completed wine room, racking styles, dimensions, and bottle capacities.
Coastal Custom Wine Cellars maximized capacity of the space and created a design that could house 1,769 bottles. The wine racks rest on a 4-inch toe kick to elevate them off the ground, and they have a 2-step base molding.
Back Wall (Elevation B)
On the back wall, you can see the X-cube bins at the top section, which are great for storing large format bottles and for bulk storage. Wooden case storage was added below the X-cube bins and individual wine racks at the center.
In the middle, a high-reveal display row pitches the bottles at a 15-degree angle. The bottom sections include diamond bins.
Right Wall (Elevation C) and Left Wall (Elevation D)
Coastal Custom Wine Cellars installed the same racking styles on the right and left walls of the home wine cellar, consisting of a display row in the middle and individual wine racks at the top and bottom sections. The only difference is that the left wall consists of a dogleg, which consists of a horizontal display area, intended to display the bottles horizontally.
This racking is 6-inch deep and was very useful in helping the team to create a smooth flow of the wine racks from one wall to another. The right wall racking consists of a louvered grill that hides the cooling unit.
Tasting Table (Elevation E)
Elevation E refers to the tasting table placed at the center of the elegant home wine cellar to provide a convenient place for decanting, pouring, and tasting wine. The Coastal team added bottle storage to the table. One of its side consists of individual wine racks for standard bottles, wooden case storage on the other side, and a label-forward display rack on the end.
Adding a Beautiful Tasting Room
Coastal Custom Wine Cellars added a large wine tasting room where the client could enjoy entertaining friends and hosting wine tasting parties. It is separated from the wine cellar by the glass doors.
The wine tasting room consists of sophisticated wooden cabinetry, which includes large rectangular opening for serving the wines. The painted glass above the opening adds character to the room. The cabinets and drawers are intended for storing gadgets and wine cellar accessories, such as bottle openers, wine glasses, decanters, and a lot more.
Beautiful Racking Material
The racking material was chosen very carefully to meet the owner’s aesthetic preferences. In this project, Coastal Custom Wine Cellars used Malaysian Mahogany. This type of wood is widely used in wine room construction because of its beauty and durability.
The wooden wine racks exhibit unique streaks, stripes, or ripples. The Coastal team stained them with Chappo stain to achieve a rustic look and applied a clear coat finish for a lustrous appearance.
Installing a Reliable Wine Cellar Cooling System
The wine refrigeration system plays a crucial role in creating a safe wine storage environment. Wine needs stable conditions in order to age gracefully, preserving its desirable characteristics before it is consumed.
Coastal Custom Wine Cellars performed a heat load calculation, and decided that a split wine cellar cooling system was the ideal choice. The climate control unit was supplied by US Cellar Systems, one of the top-notch manufacturers of wine refrigeration units.
A split system is the ideal choice if the owner does not want any disturbing noise inside the wine cellar. The evaporator and condenser are installed separately. The condenser, which is the noisier component, is placed outside the wine room, resulting in a quiet operation.
