Custom Home Wine Cellars are a Beautiful Way to Enhance Your Denver Residence

Denver home wine cellar design

Jake Austad and his team at Custom Wine Cellars Denver recently created a beautiful custom home wine cellar for a valued client in Denver. It features a large glass wall, wooden and metal custom racking, LED lighting, and a commercial-grade split system cooling unit. It’s a stunning addition to this stylish home.

Custom Wine Cellars Denver, led by Jake Austad, has been providing innovative wine storage solutions to clients in Denver. We have helped wine collectors transform a space in their home into a stunning wine display and storage room for their prized vintages.

In this particular wine cellar construction project, we were contacted by a repeat client, who wanted to renovate their simple wine cellar with a wet bar area, which we built about five to six years ago. Our goal in this project was to transform it into an eye-catching feature in the house.

Personalized Wine Room Design Created by a Top-Notch Builder of Home Wine Cellars in Denver

Creating a wine cellar design requires keen attention to detail, creativity, knowledge, and expertise. Our designers at Custom Wine Cellars Denver created a custom design using 3-dimensional drawings. The CAD images were sent to the client, and after it was approved, the wine cellar installation started.

Modern and Traditional Elements Incorporated into the Wine Rack Design

The goal of our team was to create a wine storage system that is aesthetically pleasing and has a capacity of 700 bottles. We combined metal and wood elements to create a unique design that would add character to the client’s living room.

Metal Wine Racks on the Left Wall

Upon entering the beautiful residential wine cellar, you will see the metal wine racks on the left wall. The modern racking, which was supplied by VintageView, is attention-grabbing. There is a single-deep wine rack on each side of the mounted floor-to-ceiling metal frame. We could have opted for 3-deep wine racks, but the space was limited. The stunning display can be seen from the living area of the home through the arched glass wall.

Wood Wine Racks on the Back and Right Walls

The traditional elements were installed on the back and right walls. We used unfinished Light Oak for the wood wine racks.

The back wall consists of half-height Click here to learn more about wood wine racks. with a tabletop. We added solid diamond bins below the tabletop to add visual appeal and for storing wines in bulk. Both sides of the diamond bin section are individual wine racks.

Jake added an exterior window, which he does not normally want in a wine cellar. In this case, there is no direct sunlight getting into the wine room, so our team did not have to do some window treatment.

For clients who want a window in their wine cellar, we recommend a black-out shade or black-out the window and framing it from the inside.

The right wall consists of a tabletop for decanting and serving wine. A clear coat finish was applied because it is easier to clean the spilled wine than unfinished wood. Above the tabletop is a pitched high-reveal display row with LED strip lighting above it.

Another racking style added at the top section is the horizontal display section, which is intended for large format bottles. There are removable trays consisting of a taller tray at the back and a smaller one at the front. The cascading effect elevates the bottle at the back. This section is also illuminated by LED lights.

The rest of the racking at the top section are single bottle wine racks. Jake specializes in getting to know what his clients collect so he can design the wine cellar based on what they want. Knowing the sizes of bottles in their collection will help our team to design bottle openings, making sure that the label will not be damaged when you pull out the bottle from the racking.

We added wood case storage bins below the tabletop. There are runners for each case to allow them to slide smoothly without scratching the wine racks.

Custom Wine Cellar Door

The glass wine cellar door was customized using the personal preference of the client. It is a classic steel door with thermally insulated dual-paned glass. The door is equipped with weather stripping to create an airtight seal. A well-insulated door will prevent the warm air from entering the wine cellar.

Installing a Reliable Wine Cooling System

As a professional builder of home wine cellars in Denver, Jake Austad always wants to make sure that every wine room is equipped with the right size and type of wine refrigeration unit. To achieve this, our team performed a heat load calculation, considering the location of the wine cellar and the amount of glass installed in it. In this particular project, the required BTU was 6600.

The Rack Mounted (RM) wine cooling system from LRC was used to cool the wine cellar. The evaporator coil was placed within the racking on the right wall, hidden in a wooden grill cover.  The condenser is located outdoor.

This commercial-grade split system offers many benefits, including maximum efficiency and ease of maintenance. Plumbing supply stores in the nearby area can repair the parts or fix the system if it is not functioning correctly.
